Luis Leal - Store Clerk murdered in Terrell, Texas

Luis Leal

Luis Leal, age 22, died on October 28, 2013, at a convenience store in Terrell, Texas.

It is believed that Luis, a store clerk, was shot and killed during a robbery attempt by a man on a murder rampage.

Charles Brownlow Jr., age 36, has been arrested in connection with 5 murders in Terrell on October 28, 2013.

It is believed that Charles Brownlow killed his 63 year old mother, his aunt, Jason Wooden, Kelleye Pratt, and Luis Leal, all on the same day.

It is also believed that he set his mother's house on fire and burned it down. He lived

in his mother's house at the time of her death. He then allegedly stole her car and continued his rampage.

Brownlow was apprehended just before 1:30 a.m. the next day, after a high speed chase that ended with him hiding in the woods and being found by a combination of heat detecting cameras and police dogs.

Charles Brownlow is a career criminal with multiple weapons, theft, burglary, assault and drug convictions going back to the 1990's. He goes to court like others go to the

grocery store. He has served time in prison. He has a rap sheet like Judas.

Now he may face the death penalty.

Friends describe Luis Leal, the 22 year old murdered store clerk, as a hard-working father who was trying to support his family.

His employer, Ali Karimi, stated that Luis was a good, honest, caring individual. Ali Karimi stated that he loved Luis like a son.

Luis is survived by many loving friends and relatives, including his fiancée and his one year old son.

Robert Bingaman - Law Enforcement - North Carolina

Police Officer Robert Bingaman, age 37, died in the line of duty on October 29, 2013, in Asheville, North Carolina.

Robert was a member of the Asheville Police Department. He had 6 years of service.

He was called Rob by many of his friends.

He was killed a single vehicle crash when his patrol car plunged off of the Jeff Bowen Bridge on I-240 onto Riverside Drive below. The accident happened at about 1:20 p.m.

Officer Bingaman was removed from the vehicle and rushed to the hospital. At that time, he was pronounced dead.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Robert was a former Marine. He served at Camp Lejeune from January 1996 to January 2000. He left the Marine Corps as a Sergeant.  Military comrades describe him as a good guy who always had your back.

The Asheville Police Department is in mourning over the death of their comrade.

Police officials stated that Officer Bingaman always came to work and did his job well. He was well respected and well liked. Others describe him as a compassionate and diligent officer who served his community with pride and unselfish acts of kindness.

Rafsan Alam - a hit and run victim in Scarborough, Ontario

Rafsan Alam, age 22, died on October 20, 2013, on a street in Scarborough, Ontario.

He had been playing cards with friends and relatives. At about 1:00 a.m., he left the gathering and headed off to a local coffee shop to get some pastries. His sister was due to fly in from out of town and he wanted to get her some treats.

Rafsan was crossing the street when he was struck by a truck. The driver fled the scene.

The driver of the truck was allegedly involved in the armed robbery of a cab driver prior to the collision with Rafsan.

Anthony Sowkey, age 24, of Toronto, has been arrested and faces charges including armed robbery, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death, criminal negligence causing death, impaired driving causing death, failure to stop at the scene of an accident and driving while disqualified.

Rafsan was in his final year at the University of Toronto Scarborough campus, studying for a bachelor of business administration. He had ambitions to study in New Zealand.

Friends describe him as one of the nicest people they've met. He was humble. He was into fitness.

This family has suffered huge losses. Rafsan's older brother had drowned at age 3, while the family was living in Bangladesh.

Rafsan is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his mother Kamrun; his father, Kaisar; and two siblings.

Christopher Alvelo - Teenage Hero in Pennsylvania

Christopher Alvelo, age 17, died on October 26, 2013, in a parking lot in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Chris was an Eagle Scout and he and his step-father, Joe Synder, were driving home from an Eagle Scout trash clean-up project at a local park. It has been reported that three passengers were with them.

During the trip home, at about 12:30 p.m., Joe suffered some sort of medical emergency, passed out and lost control of the vehicle.

Chris, who was in the front passenger seat, grabbed the wheel and tried to take control of the SUV. He was able to steer the vehicle off the road and into a nearby parking lot. However, he couldn't press on the brakes and the vehicle slammed into an unoccupied van.

Chris died at the scene of the collision.

His step-father survived and so did the teenage passengers in the back of the SUV.

Chris was a senior at New Foundations Charter High School. He would have turned 18 in December and was planning on joining the Air Force.

High School officials describe Chris as a gentleman who was well loved and respected by his teachers and his peers. He loved his family members.

Friends stated that Chris was a beautiful person who will never be forgotten. He was personable, outgoing and always had a smile on his face. He is also described as kind-hearted and helpful.

Chris is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his mother, his brother and sister, and his step-father.

Arlie Hill III - Firefighter - Kentucky

Lieutenant Arlie Hill III, age 37, of McCreary County, Kentucky, died on October 27, 2013, at a hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Arlie was a volunteer member of the Whitley City Fire Department in Kentucky. He had 14 years of service.

Arlie was nicknamed "Pooh" by his family and friends.

On August 30, 2013, Lt. Arlie Hill and his brother-in-law, Lt. Adam Stephens, also a volunteer firefighter with the Whitley City Fire Department, witnessed a fire in a residence near Arlie's home. The men reported the fire, and initiated a search of the

home. Arlie thought that there may have been a child inside the house.

While inside the structure, the firefighters were caught by rapid fire progress. Arlie was trapped by a flashover and was severely burned over a large part of his body. Adam Stephens suffered injuries but was able to pull Arlie from the burning house.

The Whitley Fire Department is in mourning over the loss of their comrade who was a valued and loved member.

Arlie is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his wife, Sharen; and his son and daughter.

Jessica Heeringa - Missing in Michigan

Jessica Heeringa, age 26, went missing on April 26, 2013, in Norton Shores, Michigan.

She was working the night shift at the Sternberg Road Exxon Mobil Gas Station in Norton Shores. She was near to closing down the station for the night after 11:15 p.m. when she disappeared.

There are few clues as to what happened to Jessica. A drop or two of her blood was found outside of the gas station. The Police believe that Jessica was abducted. The gas station was not robbed.

Suspect

Jessica is described as a white female, 5 feet 1 inch tall, about 110 pounds, with blond, shoulder-length hair and blue eyes. She is also known to wear wire-rim glasses.

The Police are interested in a silver minivan, possibly a 2005 Chrysler Town and Country, that was seen in the area of the Exxon station prior to Jessica’s disappearance. The driver is described as a white male, approximately 30-40 years old, approximately 6’ tall, medium to heavy build, broad shoulders, light brown or sandy blond wavy hair parted in the middle and slightly longer on top. 

Many searches have been undertaken by concerned family members, friends and well-wishers. A multi-jurisdictional law enforcement task force, state and federal assistance and thousands of tips haven’t resolved this case.

Jessica's family are praying for her safe return including her mother, Shelly Heeringa; her grandmother, Diane Homrich; her fiancé, Dakotah Quail-Dyer and their 3-year-old son, Zevyn.

Keith Crenshaw - Law Enforcement - Mississippi

Officer Keith Crenshaw, age 52, died in the line of duty on October 23, 2013, on a highway near Eupora, Mississippi. 

Keith was a member of the Eupora Police Department. 

Three men were wanted in connection with multiple attempted robberies earlier that morning.  A high speed chase ensued across three counties.  

At about 10:00 a.m., Officer Crenshaw was laying a spike strip on the roadway to disable the fleeing vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle swerved to avoid the spikes and struck Keith.  He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The vehicle then crashed into a metal utility pole. 

One subject was killed in the wreck.  Frank Maye, age 33 and Brandon Johnson, age 26, both of Orlando, Florida, were taken into custody.

Local officials stated that Keith did a fine job and loved his work. He always went the extra mile.  He was an asset to the community.

Nicholas Colabufo - Law Enforcement - Illinois

Acting Police Chief Nicholas Colabufo, age 52, died in the line of duty on October 20, 2013, in Cicero, Illinois.

Nick was a member of the Hawthorne Park District Police Department and had served as a part time officer for several years. He had previously served with the Cook County Sheriff's Office for 30 years.

at a local sports complex in Cicero. He suddenly collapsed while he was dealing with the disturbance. He passed away a short time after.

Kamal and Balbir Singh - Victims of drunk driving in Menlo Park, California

Kamal Singh, age 45 and Balbir Singh, age 50, died on October 24, 2013, on a street in Menlo Park, California.

Just before 7:00 p.m., the husband and wife were walking their dog when they were struck from behind by a vehicle. The vehicle then crossed the center divider, hit another car and struck a tree.

Kamal and Balbir were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car, Marjorie Reitzell, age 54, of Redwood City, was taken to Stanford Hospital. She will be charged with two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter and DUI. She had a DUI conviction last year.

Leroy Murphy Jr. - Firefighter - Ohio

Firefighter Leroy Murphy Jr., age 56, died on October 20, 2013, at a local hospital in Dayton, Ohio.

Leroy was the safety director for Whirlpool Corporation in Greenville.  He was a firefighter for the Englewood Fire Department and the Gettysburg Fire Department. He was an instructor on fire issues at Clark State Community College.

On October 18, 2013, Leroy had responded to a fire call involving farm equipment while on duty with the Gettysburg

Rural Fire Department. 

The following morning, Leroy fell ill while teaching at a local fire academy. He was treated and transported to the hospital but tragically passed away on October 20, 2013.

He was a member of the Eagles; Darke County Coin Club; Treaty City Amateur Radio; Ohio Society of Fire Service Instructors; and a past member of the Fire Chiefs Association.

Leroy will be forever mourned by his loved ones and his comrades. 

Leroy is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his father Leroy Murphy Sr., his son, Wyatt; stepchildren Betty, Nicole, Michael; and his wife, Betty. Leroy was predeceased by his mother.

Patrick Hill - Law Enforcement - Michigan

Police Officer Patrick Hill, age 37, died on October 19, 2013, at a local hospital in Detroit, Michigan.

He was a member of the Detroit Police Department. He had 13 years of service.

On April 2, 2013, he was pursuing a murder suspect in a high speed chase. The suspect got boxed in by police vehicles, and opened fire on officers. He wounded one officer. Officers opened fire and killed the suspect.

It is believed that Patrick Hill was inadvertently wounded when shrapnel from a shotgun fire by another officer struck Patrick in the head.

The Police Department and the community is in mourning over the death of Patrick Hill.

Officer Hill’s wife, who is a physician’s assistant at St. Joseph Hospital, took an unpaid leave of absence to care for her husband who remained in a coma from the time he was shot.

Of course this all comes down to Matthew Joseph, age 23, who was the shooter in this tragedy. He had a rap sheet like Judas.

The Microsoft Corporation and Windows 8.1

Don't update to it until the bugs
are worked out of it

One of our computers bust out a month ago.  It was old and had just about reached the end of its life.  It was acting crazy and took 5 minutes to boot up and the fans were whirring and it was a mess.

That computer ran Windows Vista as an operating system.  It worked just fine. So did Windows XP before that. 

We bought a new computer that came preloaded with Windows 8.  We didn't like Windows 8 much but it worked after some diddling around and tweaking, we got it to where we wanted it - to a workable state. 

In the interim we paid $116.00 for Microsoft Office 2013 which includes Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Powerpoint. Everything seemed to work okay. 

THEN...we updated to Windows 8.1.  Microsoft Word still worked but Microsoft Excel crashed every time we opened it.  It crashed on older Excel documents which were converted to Excel 2013.  It crashed on new documents composed in Excel 2013. 

What new innovation can we come up that they'll buy?

Microsoft Excel 2013, however, works in "safe mode".  It just doesn't work in regular mode. The Microsoft Corporation and others give 500 reasons and 500 webpages to peruse and to study as to possible reasons for Microsoft Excel 2013 not working properly.

Apparently, you are supposed to figure it out yourself, as if you were an Internet Technologist and a software engineer instead of a paying client who expects a product to work from the get-go. 

Either there are bugs in Microsoft Excel 2013 or Microsoft Excel 2013 is not compatible with Microsoft's new Operating System - Windows 8.1. 

Summary of our beef:

1. You buy a brand new computer and pay for it. 
2. It comes pre-loaded with Windows 8.  
3. You pay for Microsoft's Office 2013.  It works under Windows 8. 
4. You upgrade to Windows 8.1.
5. Microsoft Excel 2013 doesn't work unless it is in safe mode. 
6. In other words, Excel doesn't work in Windows 8.1 without studying and analyzing 500 pages of data on the internet to try to correct this issue yourself.  

Advice:  Don't upgrade to Windows 8.1 if you rely on Microsoft Office products such as Word or Excel.  

God save us from the Mega-Corporations.  

They are greedy and continually "upgrade and revise" their programs and systems in order that you will buy the new program or system. They don't care if the program or system works well.  They don't even care if their own programs are compatible with their own operating systems.  They just want your money. They reinvent the eggbeater over and over again, not to improve it, but to get you to re-buy it.

Christopher Grant - U.S. Military

Lance Cpl. Christopher O. Grant, age 20, of Richwood, Louisiana, died on October 20, 2013, while conducting combat operations in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 9th Marines, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. 

Christopher Grant grew up in Richwood, Louisiana and graduated from high school there in 2012. He deployed to Afghanistan in September, 2013. 

A fellow Marine wrote:  "Rest in Peace brother. You were a great friend and an even better Marine. Its been an honor serving with you. I know God will be honored to have such a noble hero guarding the gates of Heaven. Semper Fidelis"

Chris was known for his singing voice.  He was talented.

Lyle Turnbull - U.S. Military

Sgt. Lyle D. Turnbull, age 31, of Norfolk, Virginia, died on October 18, 2013, in Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, from a medical emergency. 

Lyle Turnbull was assigned to the 62nd Expeditionary Signal Battalion, 11th Signal Brigade, Fort Hood, Texas.

Lyle had participated in an Army Ten Miler Shadow Run. He may have passed away from a heart attack from the stress of the run.

Lyle was originally from Charlotte Amalie, in the Virgin Islands.

Kamran Yousaf - store clerk murdered in Sydney, Australia

Kamran Yousaf, age 28, died on October 12, 2013, at a fruit store in Sydney, Australia.

Two men barged into the store at about 3:45 p.m.  - one armed with a gun and one with a hammer. Kamran tried to prevent the thieves from stealing the cash register.

A number of staff members and at least six customers were present in the shop at the time.

A struggle ensued and Kamran was shot twice - in the head and in the stomach. When the police and paramedics arrived, life saving procedures were performed but Kamran died at the scene of the crime.

Kamran was from Gujrat, Pakistan. He was a Muslim. He had come to Sydney in December of 2012 to study for a Master’s degree in Professional Accounting at the King’s Own Institute, which is a business college in Sydney.

He was scheduled to return to Pakistan in late October to see his wife and his family.

He had gotten married 6 months ago in Pakistan.

Two suspects, Linh Dang, age 27, and Lance Lachlan Murdoch, age 27, of Villawood, have both been charged with murder and armed robbery.

Customers of the fruit shop describe Kamran as young, friendly and hard-working.

Kamran is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his parents and his wife.

Brian Fleetwood - a Good Samaritan in British Columbia, Canada

Brian Fleetwood, age 38, a resident of Gabriola Island, British Columbia, is a Good Samaritan. 

On October 12, 2013, he was in Surrey, B.C., heading to see a pro hockey game in Vancouver with his brother-in-law, Jason.  

He was at the Scott Road Station of the SkyTrain. SkyTrain is a light rapid transit system in Greater Vancouver which uses monorail type trains on elevated tracks.  

Brian was standing at the station waiting for a train to the hockey game, when he saw that a man had fallen off the platform and had hit his head.  The stranger was unconscious and bleeding.  The stranger is named Wayne and is in his early 40's. 

Brian jumped onto the tracks to help Wayne.  Brian is a roofer by trade and not a medical professional. However, he had previously undertaken first aid training. Brian thinks that adrenaline just kicked in and he jumped into action.  

Brian talked to the man and reassured him that help was coming.

After a few minutes two more men joined Brian on the tracks.  All three lifted Wayne, who had suffered a seizure, out from the SkyTrain’s path. Paramedics took the injured man to hospital. Brian continued on to the hockey game.  

Family members state that Brian is their hero. And he is a hero. 

Most people would be terrified of climbing onto city train tracks. You can be electrocuted and killed from subway or monorail tracks.  And most people don't know if a train is electrified from overhead wires or from the tracks.  Most people would do nothing.  But Brian stepped up to the plate. 

The Good Samaritans are not Saints, but they do saintly things, one of which is the giving of oneself to help others, selflessly. 

God bless Brian Fleetwood and all who come to the aid of strangers. Amen. 

Charles Sperry - Elderly man killed in bank robbery - Reno, Nevada

Charles Sperry, age 80, died on October 16, 2013, at a Bank of America in Reno, Nevada.

At about 10:00 a.m., a robber, Van McDuffie, age 66, took a taxi to the branch with the intent of robbing it. McDuffie allegedly pushed at least two people during the robbery and approached a bank teller with a gun, saying, "This is a robbery. Give me all your money."

At that time, Charles Sperry told him to leave. He approached McDuffie and a scuffle ensued. McDuffie then shot Charles Sperry in the chest.

rap sheet like Judas. He has been arrested 62 times. Five arrests have been for felonies.

This dude has almost been arrested once for every year that he has been alive.

The thieves, even though they are senior citizens themselves, will use their walkers, wheelchairs, taxis and buses to get to a place they can rob. God help us.

Joe Sperry, the son of Charles Sperry, the victim, stated: "Today I lost my father, my best friend, and my hero. I'm so angry, sad, and confused. I lay here now praying. Tell your loved ones you love them, please. Thank you to all my friends and loved ones. R.I.P. Dad."

Jantzen Frazier - Firefighter - Alabama

Jantzen Frazier, age 28, died in the line of duty on October 17, 2013, in Morgan County, Alabama.

Jantzen was a volunteer member of Oden Ridge Fire and Rescue.

He saw smoke coming from the house behind his own. He called it in, retrieved the tanker truck, and was on the way to the fire when he lost control of the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time.

Jantzen graduated from Hartselle High School in 2003.  He enlisted in the Army on his 18th birthday, April 9, 2003.

He was deployed several times to war zones and was severely injured by shrapnel on one occasion.   Jantzen received the Purple Heart.

Jessie Cavett - murder victim in Gresham, Oregon

Jessie Cavett, age 27, died on October 13, 2013, at Oregon State Health & Science University.

Around noon on October 12, 2013, she had been shot in the head.

Her ex-husband, Joshua Cavett, age 36, has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with her death.

He had also abducted the couple's two year old daughter.  He left behind the 5 year old daughter, who is his stepchild.

Jessie had filed a restraining order against Joshua in August of 2013. Jessie had filed for a divorce. According to court documents, Joshua had attacked Jessie multiple times earlier this year including beating her, hitting her over the head, kicking her in the stomach and threatening to set her on fire. 

Joshua Cavett has a lengthy criminal record.  The internet has 7 or 8 different mug shots of him from different bookings at police stations.  This dude has a rap sheet like Judas.

Jessie worked as a stylist at a cosmetology school in southeast Portland.  

Friends describe Jessie as someone who always believed in the best in people.  She had a big heart.  She loved her students at the school and adored her two daughters. 

Family members describe Jessie as a loving and caring mother.

Jessie is survived by many loving friends and relatives including her sister, Jennie Cochran; and her two young daughters, ages 5 and 2.

God save us from those who once said they loved us and then kill us. Amen.

Clay Crabb - Law Enforcement - Texas

Lieutenant Clay Crabb, age 42, died on October 16, 2013, on a highway in Hays County, Texas.

Clay was a member of the Austin Police Department. He had 15 years of service with the Department and 4 years with the San Angelo Police Department.

Clay died one day before his 43rd birthday.

He was on the way to the police station before 6:00 a.m. when his patrol car hydroplaned due to heavy rain and slid into oncoming traffic. His vehicle was struck by another vehicle, fatally injuring him.

Clay had earned 16 commendations and awards during his career, including a Superior Service Citation, a Safe Driving Ribbon with Silver Star, an Academic Achievement Ribbon with Diamond, and a Master Peace Officer Ribbon.

The Austin Police Department is in mourning.

Police officials stated that Clay was a man with a big heart and great sense of humor.

Clay is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his wife and three children.

James Brynin - U.K. Military

L/Cpl James Brynin, age 22, died on October 15, 2013, while on patrol in Kakaran, north of Lashkar Gah, Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

He died of injuries sustained from enemy gunfire. He died at the scene.

James was a member of the 14th Signal Regiment, the Intelligence Corps.

He was known as Jay to his family and friends.

He joined the Army in February of 2011. He had previously served a tour of duty in Afghanistan.

Military officials stated that he had excelled in the Army and that he had grand ambitions regarding his military career.

He was very popular amongst his colleagues and was an outstanding soldier in every respect. He is described as the brightest and the best.

Patrick Quinn - U.S. Military

Staff Sgt. Patrick H. Quinn, age 26, of Quarryville, Pennsylvania, died on October 13, 2013, in Paktika Province, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when the enemy attacked his base with small arms fire.

He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group, Fort Carson, Colorado.

Patrick was born in Delaware. He enlisted as an infantryman in the U.S. Army in July of 2006. Upon completion of his initial training, he was assigned to 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment at Fort Wainwright, Alaska. He continued his service with 1st Battalion, 35th Armor Regiment at Fort Bliss, Texas.

Patrick completed a combat deployment to Iraq from September of 2008 to August of 2009.

After his assignment at Fort Bliss, Patrick volunteered for the Special Forces Assessment and Selection. He graduated from the Special Forces Qualification Course in 2013. His first assignment as a Green Beret was as an engineer sergeant with 3rd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) at Fort Carson, Colorado, where he served on a Special Forces team.

Patrick's awards and decorations include four Army Commendation Medals, the Army Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, two Army Good Conduct Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal (with 2 Campaign Stars), the Global War on Terror Service Medal, two Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbons, the Army Service Ribbon, two Overseas Service Ribbons, Special Forces Tab, Parachutist Badge, and the Combat Infantryman's Badge.

He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal (with Campaign Star), and the NATO Medal.

His military colleagues are in mourning over Patrick's passing. He will be forever

Kim Kilgore - killed in Georgia over a road rage incident

Kim Kilgore, age 21, died on October 11, in an apartment parking lot in Kennesaw, Georgia.

She was shot at about 2:00 a.m. She was taken to a local hospital but was taken off of life support hours later and passed away.

Sparkles Lindsey, age 22, of Austell, Georgia, has been charged with aggravated assault and murder.

Details are sketchy and poorly reported. However it seems that Kim was out on the town partying with friends and so was Sparkles Lindsey and her friends.

apartment parking lot looking to raise hell. It was then that the shooting occurred.

Now, young women go out clubbing on a Friday night and they carry guns with them - in their purse? in the glove compartment of their vehicle?

Are these women crazy? Is this 1870 in Dodge City? Is this the Wild West?

If you are a woman in a bar in Georgia and you're rummaging in your purse for your lipstick, do you say "Oh, there it is.....under my gun."?   If so, then God help us all.
