Allen Lee Jacobs - Police Officer Fatality - Greenville, South Carolina

Allen Lee Jacobs

Police Officer Allen Lee Jacobs, age 28, died in the line of duty on March 18, 2016, at a hospital in Greenville, South Carolina.

Officer Jacobs was a member of the Greenville Police Department. He had 4 and one-half years of service. He served on the Community Response Team and on the SWAT Team.

Greenville is a city of under 65,000 and is part of the Greenville-Anderson-Mauldin Statistical Area.

Just after 12 noon, Allen and several other officers on a Crime Response Team were attempting to serve a warrant on a teenaged gang member who was reported to be in possession of a firearm in the Nicholtown neighbourhood of Greenville.

Deontea Perry Mackey, age 17, saw the officers approaching and fled into a wooded area near his home. Officers pursued him. The subject shot Allen multiple times and fled further. However, he was surrounded by more officers. He then shot and killed himself.

Allen was rushed to a nearby hospital where, tragically, he died of his injuries.

The Greenville Police Department is in mourning over the death of their young brother. He was a hard-working, professional officer who was dedicated to his job. He was an asset to his comrades and had received multiple awards from the Department. He will be forever remembered.

Allen's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He loved his wife and kids and was loved in return. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Allen is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his wife and two sons.

Jessica Smith - a Good Samaritan who tragically died in Greenville County, South Carolina

Jessica Nicole Smith, age 29, died on September 26, 2015, on a highway in Greenville County, South Carolina.

At about 1:30 a.m., Jessica was the passenger in a vehicle near Interstate 385 and U.S. 276. She came across a motor vehicle accident involving a pick-up truck on a highway bridge and got out of her vehicle to see if she could help.

She searched the truck and the vicinity but found no one. She leaned over the edge of the bridge calling out for anyone who was injured or in distress.

It is believed that Jessica heard a voice responding and in order to get a better look at what was happening below, she stepped over the railing.

It was then that she fell 23 feet to the base of the bridge, fatally injuring herself. Tragically she died at the scene.

There is no report on the condition of the male pick-up truck driver.

Jessica was a certified nursing assistant and the mother of a nine year old son.

Angels of God, pray for Jessica and for those who have lost her.

Jessica's loved ones are devastated over her sudden and tragic death. Family members stated that Jessica was always there for others. She died as she lived, helping others. She was a loving mother who did her best. She will be forever mourned.

Jessica is survived by many loving friends and family members including her 9 year old son, Isaiah.

Stuart Hardy - Firefighter - Burton Fire District, South Carolina

Firefighter/EMT Stuart Hardy, age 31, died on September 24, 2015, at a hospital in Charleston, South Carolina.

Firefighter Hardy was a member of the Burton Fire District based in Beaufort, South Carolina. 

He was called Stuey by his friends and family. 

Just after noon on September 13, 2015, Stuart and other members of the Fire District responded to the scene of a motor vehicle accident.  

Stuart suffered a medical emergency and collapsed at the scene. He was rushed to a nearby hospital in Beaufort and then to a larger hospital in Charleston. 

Stuart was listed in stable but critical condition. Tragically he succumbed to injuries to his brain eleven days after the incident.

Stuart and his wife were originally from Colorado and were high school sweethearts. Stuart was a Marine Corps veteran with almost 10 years of service as a mechanic.  He was deployed twice to Iraq. He graduated from the South Carolina Fire Academy a year ago.

Terrible Tragedy at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina

On June 17, 2015, the following people died at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, in Charleston, South Carolina.

Ethel Lance, age 70, employee of Emanuel AME Church for 30 years

Rev. DePayne Middleton-Doctor, age 49, admissions counselor of Southern Wesleyan University

The Honorable Rev. Clementa Pinckney, age 41, state senator, Reverend of Emanuel AME Church

Tywanza Sanders, age 26, earned business administration degree from Allen University

Rev. Daniel Simmons Sr., age 74, retired pastor (died at MUSC)

Rev. Sharonda Singleton, age 45, track coach at Goose Creek High School

Myra Thompson, age 59, church member

Dylann Roof, age 21, of Eastover, South Carolina, a white male, had wandered into the church at about 8:00 p.m., to participate in a Bible Study Group at the church. He was welcomed with open arms. He sat with the group for about an hour and then pulled out a gun and opened fire on everyone in the room. He reloaded his 45-caliber

handgun several times.

He told his victims that African-Americans were taking over the U.S.A. and raping white women. When Tywanza Sanders, age 26, said to Dylann Roof: "You don't have to do this.". Dylann answered: "I have to do this."

Dylann Roof has been charged with nine counts of murder. He has pled guilty to these horrendous acts of murder. He stated that at first he considered not pursuing his plan because everyone at the church was so nice to him.

Dylann was a self-professed racist. He had a confederate license plate on his car. He wore patches on his jacket from Apartheid era South Africa and Rhodesia when it was under white control.

Dylann Roof left high school after the 9th grade. He had spent much of the last few weeks guzzling vodka in a haze of cigarette smoke. He bounced back and forth between his dad's home in Columbia, South Carolina, and the place his mother and her boyfriend shared in nearby Lexington. His life was slowly falling apart.

Of course, Dylann Roof is a psychopath. It is unfortunate that his family members weren't aware of this fact before this tragedy unfolded. Perhaps they could have guided him to some sort of psychiatric help and prevented the mass murder of the innocents.

Katie Schlinger - An assault victim in Aiken, South Carolina

Katie Schlinger, age 26, was brutally attacked on December 20, 2013, in Aiken, South Carolina.

Katie was in town visiting her brother who was undergoing open heart surgery. 

Around 4 a.m., she was outside by her vehicle at a local Quality Inn smoking a cigarette when a man, Michael Antwon Fuller, age 23, approached her. He asked her for a cigarette, and the two began talking about their loved ones who were in the hospital. Katie told him that her brother was undergoing open-heart surgery, and Michael Fuller informed her that his uncle was a patient there.

He asked for a ride to the hospital and Katie agreed.  He instructed her to continue driving past several entrances of the hospital and turn down a dark road when he then pressed a .25 caliber pistol to her cheek and ordered her to continue to drive around.  It has been reported that he eventually sexually assaulted her while in the car, and the two began to tussle over control of vehicle.  They fought and she sped in reverse, crashing into a tree knocking Michael Fuller unconscious and she was able to escape to a patch of grass where she collapsed.  She was found and taken to a nearby Medical Center. 

Michael Antwon Fuller was found by the Aiken police half-conscious in the car with the pistol nearby. 

He has been charged with kidnapping and criminal sexual conduct. 

Katie spent several days in the Aiken Regional Medical Center and was later transported to a rehab center in Augusta, Georgia.  Her neck was broken and she has also lost feeling in the right side of her body and the use of her right shoulder and hand.  She was operated on twice in December. 

Doctors told Katie Schlinger that she may never walk again. However she is determined that she will recover and has taken almost 100 steps during therapy.

Katie Schlinger is uninsured, and currently, her total medical bills are already upwards of $250,000. An online fundraising campaign has been started to help raise money to pay her medical bills.

Hindsight is 20-20.  However, it goes without saying that young women should not be standing outside at 4:00 a.m. smoking or doing anything else in a public area.  This is an open invitation to wing-nuts to approach you and to hurt you.  We all know this. But we all have an invincibility mindset in our heads in which bad things happen to others and not to us, which is a false assumption in the modern era. 

Pray for this young woman, that she recovers her health and her mobility.

Kelly Hunnewell - Store Clerk murdered in Columbia, South Carolina

Kelly Hunnewell, age 33, died on July 1, 2013, inside a bakery store in Columbia, South Carolina.

Kelly was shot in the upper body by three men in a botched robbery attempt.

Kelly was working the third shift (an overnight shift) at the bakery. At about 3:30 a.m., three men entered the store to rob it and when she resisted she was shot.

It is believed that the men entered the store through an open door. Bakeries are hot and employees often open doors at night to get a breeze or some cooling.
