Allen Lee Jacobs - Police Officer Fatality - Greenville, South Carolina

Police Officer Allen Lee Jacobs, age 28, died in the line of duty on March 18, 2016, at a hospital in Greenville, South Carolina.

Officer Jacobs was a member of the Greenville Police Department. He had 4 and one-half years of service. He served on the Community Response Team and on the SWAT Team.

Greenville is a city of under 65,000 and is part of the Greenville-Anderson-Mauldin Statistical Area.

Just after 12 noon, Allen and several other officers on a Crime Response Team were attempting to serve a warrant on a teenaged gang member who was reported to be in possession of a firearm in the Nicholtown neighbourhood of Greenville.

Deontea Perry Mackey, age 17, saw the officers approaching and fled into a wooded area near his home. Officers pursued him. The subject shot Allen multiple times and fled further. However, he was surrounded by more officers. He then shot and killed himself.

Allen was rushed to a nearby hospital where, tragically, he died of his injuries.

A funding site has been set up to help the family with expenses.

The Greenville Police Department is in mourning over the death of their young brother. He was a hard-working, professional officer who was dedicated to his job. He was an asset to his comrades and had received multiple awards from the Department. He will be forever remembered.

Allen's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He loved his wife and kids and was loved in return. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Allen is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his wife and two sons.
