Eric Balliet - Fire Fighter - Fort Wayne, Indiana

Capt. Eric Balliet, age 41, died in the line of duty on September 27, 2017, at a hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana. 

Capt. Balliet was a member of the Fort Wayne Fire Department. He had 19 years of service.

Eric was leading his crew from Truck 15 in a training exercise at a commercial structure. The training was rigorous. Sometime during the exercise, Eric fell ill.

He was rushed to a local hospital where, tragically, he passed away.

Eric was promoted to captain in 2008. In 2014, Eric received a meritorious award for his life-saving actions at a motor vehicle accident while he was off-duty.

The members of the Fort Wayne Fire Department are in mourning over the death of their brother. He will be forever remembered.

Eric's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He loved his family and they loved him in return. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Eric is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his wife and children.

Thank you for your service to the community, Eric.

Roger Unton - a store clerk murdered in Hammond, Indiana

Roger Unton, age 60, died on January 20, 2016, at a hospital in Hammond, Indiana.

Hammond is a city in Lake County, Indiana with a population of just under 81,000. It is part of the Chicago, Illinois metropolitan area. 

Roger was working the over-night shift at a 7-Eleven in Hammond. Just after 4:30 a.m., a male entered the store to rob it. 

During the confrontation Roger was shot twice. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where tragically he succumbed to his injuries. 

A male suspect is believed to have left the area on foot and remains at large. No other description of the suspect is available as of this posting.

To the thief who killed Roger Unton, we ask this question: What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his own soul?

Roger's home was in Blue Island, Illinois. He had worked the late shift for 10 years. 

Roger's wife, Patti, stated that her husband wasn't easily intimidated and would have stood up against any robbery attempt.

Roger is described as a passionate man who loved life. He was involved with the

Sons of the American Legion and loved to garden. He was a caregiver for his elderly parents who are in ill health. 

Roger's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He was always willing to help others. He was always there for his wife and family. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Roger is survived by many loving friends and family members including his parents and his wife, Patti. 

Pray for justice for Roger.

Amanda Blackburn - a victim of a home invasion in Indianapolis, Indiana

Amanda Blackburn, age 28, died on November 12, 2015, at a hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.

At about 8:30 a.m., on November 10, 2015, Amanda's husband, Davey Blackburn, came home from working out at a gym and found that Amanda had been shot in the head. 

Amanda was rushed to a nearby hospital where, tragically, she succumbed to her injuries. 

The police believe that Amanda was the victim of a home invasion/robbery. A nearby home was broken into just hours before, but the Police are unsure if the two cases are connected. 

Amanda was the mother of a one year old son and was pregnant at the time of her death.

The Blackburns had moved to Indianapolis in 2012 from South Carolina to start the Resonate Church where Davey Blackburn is the Pastor.

Hilary Acton - killed by thieves in Indianapolis, Indiana

Hilary Acton, age 33, died on June 1, 2015, on a street in in the Near Southside district of Indianapolis, Indiana.

Just before 1:00 a.m., Hilary and her boyfriend, Mark Williams, were returning from getting ice cream cones and were unloading clothes they had gotten from the Goodwill. They were approached by two males who demanded that they hand over their possessions. Mark Williams said he tried to chase them away, but they fired shots, hitting Hilary several times.

He stated that the shooter was scared when he shot Hilary. The two males ran and turned around and started shooting again. Mark Williams was uninjured.

The Police have stated that this appears to be a random act of violence and that the victim and the shooters did not know each other.

Hilary had attended Oklahoma State University and had worked as a lab assistant. She attended the Plainfield Christian Church.

Mark Williams stated that he and Hilary had been together for about a year and that she was the love of his life.  He describes her as a loving and caring person. She loved her two sons. She was trying to get her life together.

Laquandra Warren - a Good Samaritan in Indianapolis, Indiana

Ramona Davenport, age 61, went missing in Indianapolis late on Saturday, April 18, 2015.

Ramona suffers from early onset dementia and had wandered away from her home. 

Her family reported her missing and Fire Rescue crews, the Police and Search Dog teams spent nearly three hours searching for her but couldn't find her. 

Laquandra Warren, age 30, was out with her cousin that night and they were driving down a busy city street just after midnight when she noticed a woman standing in the roadway. The woman kept stepping into traffic but as cars would honk and pass, she would step back into the median.

Laquandra passed the woman and then stopped the car. Laquandra had worked at a nursing home and recognized that the woman was totally confused and needed help.  She approached Ramona, told her that everything was going to be alright, and held on to her to prevent her from re-entering traffic. Laquandra then called 911. 

Search teams arrived minutes later and were able to return Ramona to her family. She had wandered about 20 blocks from her home. 

Emergency officers thanked Laquandra for her help. 

Many people passed by Ramona. Some called 911 but only Laquandra stopped and helped her. 

God bless Laquandra Warren. She is a Good Samaritan. 

God bless all who come to the aid of strangers.  They are the heroes of the modern era.

David Foster and Whitney Miller - victims of drunk driving in Indianapolis, Indiana

David Foster, age 50, of Indianapolis, and Whitney Miller, age 28, of Fortville, died on August 9, 2014, in a motor vehicle accident on a road in suburban Indianapolis.

At about 10:20 p.m., David, his wife, Marsha and Whitney were returning from an evening of bowling.  They were driving in a Ford Explorer near the Geist Reservoir in Hamilton County.  A black Cadillac veered into their lane striking them head on.  David and Whitney died at the scene.  Marsha was transported to a local hospital in serious condition. The impact of the crash left a hole in the road. 

Paige Byers, age 22, of Noblesville, is facing six felony charges in connection with the deaths of David and Whitney. 

Paige Byers admitted to having a number of alcoholic drinks at a concert earlier in the evening.  She ended up in an argument with her boyfriend and took off in her vehicle.  It was while driving to "clear her head" that the accident occurred.

Family members and friends describe Whitney Miller as a wonderful mother to her four children, ages 2 to 9. Donations may be made to the family for expenses by visiting the website of the Fortville Church of the Nazarene.

To All Drivers: If you find that you are drunk or doped up on street drugs or prescription drugs or if you are falling asleep on your feet, do NOT drive. Call a family member or a friend for a ride; or take a taxi; or stay where you are until you sober up; or crawl home on your hands and knees. It will be better for you and for the world if you do.

Regret can last a lifetime.

Riley Knight - a Good Samaritan killed on his wedding day in Crown Point, Indiana

William Riley Knight, age 49, died on December 15, 2013, on a highway in Crown Point, Indiana.

William had gotten married on December 14, 2013, to his bride, Nikki.

William went by his second name - Riley.

He and Nikki were leaving their wedding reception around midnight and were heading to a hotel.

They came across a road accident in which a woman's vehicle had slid off the road and into a ditch. The woman, Linda Darlington, 
age 42, of Crown Point, was walking out of the ditch. Riley got out of his vehicle to see if she needed help.

tragically killed.

The incident is under investigation. Impaired driving does not seem to be a factor in these collisions.

Riley had served in the Army's 82nd Airborne Division for 12 years. He liked hunting and was an actor in community theater.

Friends describe Riley as very outgoing and helpful. He loved his family and he loved his country.

Friends also said that this was typical of Riley. He would stop to help anybody. That's just what he did.

Riley is survived by many loving friends and family members, including his wife, Nikki, two children and two stepchildren.

Pray for the Good Samaritans who come to the aid of strangers. Some of them die for it. 

Pray for all who die by misadventure. They are with us one moment and gone the next. 

Pray that Riley is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.

Elvalide Ndiaye - Clerk killed in robbery in Indianapolis, Indiana

Elvalide Ndiaye, age 39, died on September 25, 2013, at a gas station and convenience store on the west side of Indianapolis, Indiana.

Elvalide was a clerk at the Rickers BP. He was shot in the stomach in an attempted robbery just after 3:00 a.m. Police believe that he put up no resistance to the robbers.

He was transported to a local hospital where he tragically passed away.

It was only his second day on the job. This was a second job for him because he wanted to raise funds to visit his sick mother back home.

He and his family had just moved back to Indianapolis two months ago.

Elvalide was born in Senegal, Africa. His wife will be fundraising to send his body back to his homeland for burial.

Three suspects (two men and a woman) were arrested in connection with the robbery and the killing - Shayne Thompson, age 19, Jania Hudson, age 20, and Ryan Clark, age 20, all of Indianapolis. They have preliminarily been charged with murder, robbery and resisting law enforcement.

Police ask anyone with information about the crime to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.

The wife of Elvalide said about the killers: “All I can do is pray for them. Not only have they ruined our lives, but their own lives for just a few dollars.”

Many local activists are pushing for the convenience store industry to adopt better security precautions for employees. There are too many repeated killings during robbery attempts.

Elvalide is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his mother back in Senegal, and his wife, Tanya Ndiaye.

Christian Reede - hit and run victim - Kokomo, Indiana

Christian Reede, age 13, died on September 13, 2013, at a hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Christian was from Kokomo, Indiana.

On September 12, 2013, Christian was driving his moped on a local street at about 8:45 p.m. He had a buddy, Donte Brown, on the back of the moped.

The moped was struck by a vehicle turning into Highland Springs Subdivision. After striking the juveniles on the moped, the vehicle continued southbound through the Highland Springs Subdivision without returning to the scene of the accident.

Both victims were transported to a local hospital and later air lifted to Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment.

Tragically, Christian passed away the next day. 


Donte Brown is expected to live and is recovering, as of this posting.

The vehicle that plowed into the boys is possibly a white 2005-2007 Ford Escape or Mercury Mariner, possibly missing a right front fog lamp and missing a right front inner fender well. The suspect vehicle should have front end damage.

Christian wanted to be a doctor or a basketball player when he grew up. He had "big dreams" as do all 13 year olds.

Christian was well loved and will be forever missed. His friends at school are in mourning over this tragic occurrence.

God save us from the drivers who speed like a bat out of Hell. They mow us down on the street and then run away like thieves in the night. They are killing us, Father. Amen.

Tara Willenborg - murdered in Clarksville, Indiana

Tara Willenborg, age 17, died on March 2, 2013, in her apartment in Clarksville, Indiana.

Tara had been sexually assaulted and strangled. Her body was discovered by her fiancé when he returned from work that morning.

Richard Hooten, age 49, a convicted sex offender has been arrested in connection with this crime. He currently has a warrant for his arrest for failing to register as a sex offender. He also has prior convictions, including one for sexual battery in Indiana in 2009, and another in Georgia for aggravated sodomy and rape dating back to 1993.

It is speculated that Tara had become an acquaintance of Richard Hooten only a few weeks ago.

Tara was a former Jeffersonville High School cross-country athlete and had just earned her GED two weeks ago. She loved animals and baking cupcakes.

Friends stated that "In all of her thoughts and all of her actions, she always tried to follow the path of peace."

She will be forever missed.

Tara is survived by many loving friends and relatives including her parents Todd Willenborg and Kelly Curran; two brothers, Todd Jr. and Derek Willenborg; sister Colleen Willenborg; and her fiancé, Josh Lewis.
