Douglas J. Jeffries Jr.

Pfc. Douglas J. Jeffries Jr., age 20, of Springville, California, died on September 8, 2011, in Kandahar, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.

He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York.

Douglas joined the Army in November 2009.

His awards and decorations include the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon and the NATO Medal.

Douglas was a 2009 graduate of Porterville High School.

Douglas is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his mother Evelyn Jeffries of Las Vegas; father Douglas Jeffries of Springville, California; stepmother, Andrea; and his fiancee. 

Family members describe Douglas as an awesome human being who was a great kid. 

School officials describe him as kind and caring and a friend of everyone. 

Family members also stated that when he returned from his military service, he wanted to train as a firefighter. 

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Douglas J. Jeffries Jr. is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
