Spc. Koran P. Contreras, age 21, of Lawndale, California, died on September 8, 2011, in Kandahar, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.
He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York.
Koran Contreras joined the Army in April 2008. He deployed with his unit to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in March 2011.

His awards and decorations include the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon the NATO Medal and the Combat Infantryman Badge.
Koran is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his wife and mother.
Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Koran P. Contreras is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
