Kristen Hearne - Police Officer Fatality - Georgia

Detective Kristen Hearne, age 29, died in the line of duty on September 29, 2017, in Polk County, Georgia.

Detective Hearne was a member of the Polk County Police Department based in Cedartown. She had 5 years of service. 

Cedartown is about 60 miles northwest of Atlanta, Georgia. 

Kristen was providing back-up for another officer who was investigating a report of a stolen vehicle at a rural intersection in the county. The officers questioned a man and a woman about the vehicle at which point the man pulled out a handgun and shot both officers.  Law enforcement officials describe the incident as an ambush. 

Kristen and the other officer were rushed to a local hospital where, tragically, Kristen died of her wounds. 

Samantha Roof, age 22, was taken into custody at the scene of the shooting. The male subject fled but was arrested several hours later after a massive manhunt by multiple agencies.

Seth Spangler, age 31, has been arrested and murder charges are pending. He has a prior criminal record. 

The members of the Polk County Police Department are in mourning over the death of their sister. Kristen was a hardworking and dedicated officer. She loved her work. She could light up a room with her smile. She will be forever remembered.

Kristen's loved ones are devastated over her sudden and tragic death. She was greatly supportive of her family.  She was loved. She did her best. She is their hero. She will be forever mourned.

Kristen is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including her mother, her father, her husband and her 3 year old son.

God save us from the psychopaths. They are killing us, Father. Amen.

Pray that Kristen is in Heaven. Pray that she is at peace and is with God. Amen.
