During the afternoon, Greg and three other deputies were called out to a medical facility in Augusta. A woman was unconscious inside the building. Once inside, Greg and the deputies were overcome by chemical fumes and were pulled outside by fire department personnel.
Greg was rushed to a local hospital where, tragically, he passed away.
The three other deputies were treated for exposure to toxic fumes and survived the incident.
In 2004, Greg had been shot in the face while assigned to a federal narcotics task force.
