Greg Meagher - Sheriff's Deputy Fatality - Georgia

Sergeant Greg Meagher, age 57, died in the line of duty on February 5, 2017, at a hospital in Augusta, Georgia.

Sergeant Meagher was a member of the Richmond County Sheriff's Office, based in Augusta. He had 33 years of service.

During the afternoon, Greg and three other deputies were called out to a medical facility in Augusta. A woman was unconscious inside the building. Once inside, Greg and the deputies were overcome by chemical fumes and were pulled outside by fire department personnel.

Greg was rushed to a local hospital where, tragically, he passed away.

The three other deputies were treated for exposure to toxic fumes and survived the incident.

In 2004, Greg had been shot in the face while assigned to a federal narcotics task force.

The members of the Richmond County Sheriff's Office are in mourning over the death of their brother. Greg will be forever remembered.

Greg's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Greg is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members who will forever miss him.
