Steven Floyd |
Sergeant Floyd was a member of the Delaware Department of Corrections. He had 16 years of service.
After 10:00 a.m., on February 1, 2017, a riot broke out in one building of the correctional center. A lengthy hostage situation ensued in which Steven and three other prison employees were taken prisoner by the inmates.
At about 5:00 a.m. on February 2, 2017, a tactical response team stormed the building and, tragically, found Steven deceased.
The other prison employees were rescued. They did not sustain life-threatening injuries.
Over 100 inmates involved in the riot remain in custody pending an investigation. All are suspects in Steven's death.
Adrian of Nicomedia, Patron Saint of Prison Guards, pray for Steven and for those who have lost him. |
