John Perry - U.S. Miltary Fatality - Afghanistan

Sgt. John W. Perry, age 30, of Stockton, California, died in the line of duty on November 12, 2016, in Bagram, Afghanistan.

Sgt. Perry was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Special Troops Battalion, 1st Sustainment Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

An attack was carried out by a Taliban suicide bomber before 6:00 a.m., at Bagram Airfield. 

Tragically, John died of injuries sustained from an improvised explosive device. 

One other American soldier and two American contractors were also killed. Sixteen American troops and one Polish soldier were wounded in the attack.

John was a participant in the U.S. military action against terrorists in Afghanistan. 

John entered the U.S. Army in January of 2008, as a Test, Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment maintenance support specialist. He had been assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division Sustainment Brigade since August of 2014. 

This was John's second overseas deployment.

Army Commendation Medals, one Army Achievement Medal, two Army Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with two campaign stars, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, three Overseas Service Ribbons, North Atlantic Treaty Organization Medal, Combat Action Badge and Driver’s and Mechanic Badge.

John's comrades at Fort Hood are in mourning over the death of their brother. He was a patriot and a hero. He will be forever remembered.

John's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

John is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members who will forever miss him.

Pray for all who die suddenly. They are with us one moment and are gone before we can say goodbye.

Pray, without ceasing, unto God for an end to all War. It is enough.

Pray that John is in Heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
