Anthony was known as Tony to his family and friends.
Sometime after 1:00 a.m., a male approached Tony's patrol car and shot him.
Tony was rushed to a local hospital, where tragically, he was pronounced deceased.
The shooter had also killed another police officer in Urbandale, Iowa, 20 minutes before.
Scott Greene, age 46, of Urbandale, was arrested about 8 hours later in connection with these murders. He has a history of run-ins with law enforcement.
Tony graduated from West High School in Iowa City. He then studied criminology and graduated from Simpson College in 2001. He joined the Des Moines Police Department in 2005. He had also served with the Indianola Police Department.

He had served as a School Resource Officer at Roosevelt High School where he was adored by many of the students and staff. He had also served in the Traffic Unit and as a Detective.
Friends describe Tony as hardworking, fun-loving, friendly, genuine and level-headed. He always had a smile on his face.
The Des Moines Police Department is in mourning over the death of their brother. Tony was a professional and was well-respected by his comrades. He will be forever remembered.
Tony's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.
Tony is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members who will forever miss him.

God save us from the psychopaths. They are killing us, Father. Amen.
