Officer Martin was sitting in his patrol car on an Urbandale street at about 1:00 a.m. A male approached the vehicle and opened fire without warning. Numerous shots were fired at the officer fatally wounding him.
The shooter then approached Sergeant Anthony Beminio in Des Moines and shot and killed him.

Scott Greene, age 46, of Urbandale, was arrested about 8 hours later in connection with these murders. He has a history of run-ins with law enforcement.
Justin graduated from Rockwell City-Lytton High School. He then studied criminology at Simpson College and graduated in 2015. He joined the Urbandale Police Department that same year.
Friends describe Justin as a man who had a ready smile and a positive attitude. He was bright, had social skills and a kind spirit.
The Urbandale Police Department is in mourning over the death of their young
brother. He will be forever remembered.
Justin's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He was just starting out in life. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.
Justin is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members who will forever miss him.
