Andrew Byers - U.S. Military Fatality - Afghanistan

Captain Andrew Byers, age 30, of Rolesville, North Carolina, died in the line of duty on November 3, 2016, in Kunduz, Afghanistan.

Captain Byers was assigned to Company B, 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Carson, Colorado.

Andrew was participating in Operation Freedom’s Sentinel, which is the U.S. military's support of allies against terrorists in Afghanistan.

Andrew was working with Afghan troops who were attempting to clear a Taliban position. He was 
wounded by enemy forces. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries. 

Andrew was originally from Clarence, New York, and graduated from high school there in 2004. He was a West Point graduate and joined the military in May of 2008, arriving at Fort Carson in July of 2014. He had served previous tours of duty in Iraq, in the Congo and in Italy. 

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, three Army Commendation Medals, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Iraq Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Expert Infantryman Badge, the Parachutist and Military Free Fall Parachutists badges, the Ranger tab and Special Forces tab.

friendly. He had a sense of humor and a ready smile. He was kind in spirit. 

Friends stated that Andrew had looked forward to a military career. He was enthusiastic about serving his country. 

Andrew's comrades at Fort Carson are in mourning over the death of their brother. He was a patriot and a hero. He will be forever remembered.

Andrew's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He was loving and was loved in return. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Andrew is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his parents, his twin sister, and his wife. 

Thank you for your service to America, Andrew. 

Pray for all who die while far away from their loved ones.

Pray for all who die suddenly. They are with us one moment and are gone before we can say goodbye.

Pray, without ceasing, unto God for an end to all War. It is enough.

Pray that Andrew is in Heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
