David Ortiz - Police Officer Fatality - El Paso, Texas

Patrolman David Ortiz died in the line of duty on March 14, 2016, at a hospital in El Paso, Texas.

Patrolman Ortiz was a member of the El Paso Police Department. He had nine years of service.  He was a traffic officer assigned to the Pebble Hills Regional Command. 

Just after 3:00 p.m., on March 10, 2016, David was on patrol on his motorcycle when he was struck from behind at a city intersection. He had been stopped at a red light. His motorcycle was pushed into the vehicle in front of him. He became trapped under one of the vehicle involved in the accident. 

David was rushed to a local hospital where, tragically, four days later, he succumbed to his injuries. 

The cause of the accident is under investigation. No charges have been filed as of this date. 

A funding site has been set up to help the family with expenses. 

The El Paso Police Department is in is in mourning over the death of their brother.

David was a dedicated officer. He was a a role model and a mentor to many. He was dependable, uptempo and helpful to others. He will be forever remembered.

David's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He loved his wife and kids. He was an honorable man. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

David is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his wife and children.
