Lumberton is a city in Robeson County, North Carolina. It has a population of just over 21,000.
Sometime after 11:00 a.m., Talen and his brother, Jaylen West, age 8, were playing near their home in a wooded area in Lumberton. They were both attacked by a neighbor's pit bull dog. Jaylen, the older child, tried to fight off the dog but was unsuccessful.
Emergency crews found Talen unresponsive with severe puncture wounds to his body. He may have suffered a broken neck. Both brothers were rushed to a local hospital. Tragically, Talen died of his injuries.
His brother was treated for leg injuries and released from the hospital.
The dog died, presumably of a heart attack, at the scene.
Pit Bulls were bred over 200 years ago for bull baiting, bear baiting and dog fighting.

Many towns and cities, counties and states do not allow pit bulls and related breeds within their jurisdictions. Pit bulls are banned outright in many European countries, period.
Where are the authorities in Robeson County? Where are the State Officials in North Carolina? Why do you allow Pit Bull dogs in your jurisdiction? Wake up.
Pit Bulls and related dog breeds should be bred out of existence sooner rather than later.
Death by dog is not acceptable in a civilized country.
Talen's loved ones are devastated over his senseless and tragic death. He will be forever mourned. They have suffered an unspeakable loss.
Talen is playing in the fields of Heaven.
