Nathan-Michael Smith |
Trooper Smith was a member of the Virginia State Police. He was assigned to the Richmond Division Area 7 Office. He had 1 year and 3 months of service.
He was known as Nate to his family and friends.
At about 7:10 a.m., Nate responded to a call that a trooper was in distress in Dinwiddie County. It was erroneously reported that a trooper was receiving CPR at an accident scene when in fact the trooper was performing CPR on a civilian crash victim at the scene.
As Nate was heading to the accident site, his patrol car left the highway in Prince George County and struck several trees. Nate was flown to a hospital in Richmond where tragically he succumbed to his injuries.
Nate was a graduate of Nansemond River High School in Suffolk, Virginia. He later attended Norfolk State University. He graduated from the Police Academy in June of 2014.
