Kyle Gilbert - U.S. Soldier - Military Fatality - Afghanistan

Spc. Kyle E. Gilbert, age 24, of Buford, Georgia, died on September 21, 2015, in Bagram, Afghanistan.

Unofficial reports state that Specialist Gilbert died of a gunshot wound not related to combat. The incident is under investigation.

Specialist Gilbert was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York.

Kyle had previously enlisted in the Marines in 2009 but left the service after suffering a major injury to his eardrum.  Kyle joined the Army in April of 2013 as an infantryman and trained at Fort Benning, Georgia. He was deployed out of Fort Drum, New York, to Afghanistan in June of 2015.

His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.

Kyle's military comrades are in mourning over the death of their young brother. Military officials stated that he was an exceptional soldier and junior leader in their

battalion. He was enthusiastic and vigorous. He did his job. He will be forever remembered.


Kyle's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He had wanted to serve in the military since he was a child. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Kyle is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his mother, his father and step-mother, and his brother.

Thank you for your service to America, Kyle.

Pray for all who die suddenly. They are with us one moment and are gone before we can say goodbye.

Pray that Kyle is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
