Vernell Brown Jr. - Police Officer - New Orleans, Louisiana

Police Officer Vernell Brown, age 47, died on July 17, 2015, at a hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Officer Brown was a member of the New Orleans Police Department. He worked out of the 6th District. He had 17 years of service. 

On July 12, 2015, Vernell was training two police recruits at the scene of a car fire. Two other vehicles in the vicinity were involved in a collision causing one of the cars to veer off the roadway, striking Vernell. 

He was rushed to a local hospital where he remained in a coma for five days. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries. 

The accident is under investigation and no charges have been filed as of this date.

The New Orleans Police Department is in mourning over the death of their brother. Police officials describe Vernell as one of the best fatality reconstruction investigators the department has ever had. He was professional, soft-spoken, humble but confident in what he was doing. He will be forever remembered.

Vernell's loved ones are devastated over his tragic death. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Vernell is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including but not limited to his father, Vernell Brown Sr.; his fiancée; and five children.

Pray that Vernell is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
