Chris Kelley - Law Enforcement Fatality - Texas

Sergeant Chris Kelley, age 37, died in the line of duty on June 24, 2015, at a hospital in Round Rock, Texas. 

Sergeant Kelley was a member of the Hutto Police Department. He served as the City’s Criminal Investigation Unit sergeant. He had 7 years of service with the Department and 11 years in total in law enforcement.

Hutto is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The population of Hutto is just under 15,000. 

Chris was trying to pull over Colby Ray Williamson, age 26, on a city street at about 10 a.m.  A confrontation ensued.  Details are unconfirmed but Williamson managed to get into a vehicle and run over Chris Kelley, fatally wounding him. 

Chris was rushed to a local hospital where tragically he was pronounced deceased.

Colby Ray Williamson continued to flee but was arrested soon after. He is from Austin.  He has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on a public servant. 

Chris was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He had served in the Airforce as a Technical Sergeant.  He had worked as a Texas Department of Public Safety telecommunications operator; as a peace officer with the University of Texas System Police; and as a jailer with the Travis County Sheriff's Office. 

The Hutto Police Department is in mourning over the death of their brother. Chris was a well-liked, well-respected, professional officer. He was intelligent, mature and witty.  He could put a smile on anyone's face. He will be forever remembered.

Chris' loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Chris is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his wife and two young children.

God save us from the Lost Ones who bring death to strangers. They strike us down on the road and then run away like wolves. Amen.

Pray that Chris is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
