Sanjay Patel - a store clerk murdered in New Haven, Connecticut

Sanjay Patel, age 39, died on April 6, 2015, at a hospital in New Haven, Connecticut.

Sanjay was a clerk at a Citgo gas station and convenience store. He was on duty for the night shift.

He was known to many of his friends as "Sunny".

At about 7:30 p.m., two gunmen entered the store. During the ensuing confrontation, Sanjay was shot numerous times.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital where tragically he succumbed to his injuries.

The gunmen grabbed some money out of the cash register and a box of cigars and fled the scene on foot.  They may have been running to a waiting vehicle.

We put this question to the thieves who killed Sanjay: What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his own soul?

People in the district describe Sanjay as a nice guy who was kind in his dealings with his customers. He had a bright and upbeat manner. He worked long shifts, often 7 days a week.

have a child. Last year Bhavana had been badly burned on her arms and legs in a fire and needed skin grafts.

The gunmen wore masks and one had on a gray hoodie with the word "Jordan" printed on the sleeve. Anyone with information about this crime is urged to call New Haven Detectives at (203) 946-6304.

A GoFundMe page has been set up by Sanjay's friends to help raise money for his family.

Sanjay's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. Their hearts are broken. He loved his wife and was looking forward to the birth of his first child. He will be forever mourned.

Sanjay is survived by many loving friends and family members including his wife Bhavana Chavada, and their unborn child.

Pray for justice for Sanjay.

Pray for all who go to work and who die because of it.

God save us from the thieves. They are killing us, Father. Amen.

Pray that Sanjay is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
