John Dawson - U.S. Military Fatality - Afghanistan

Spc. John M. Dawson, age 22, of Whitinsville, Massachusetts, died in the line of duty on April 8, 2015, in Jalalabad, Afghanistan.

Spc. Dawson was on an escort mission when he was shot by an Afghan National Army soldier.

John was assigned to 1st Squadron, 33 Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.  He was a combat medic.  

John graduated from Blackstone Valley Regional Technical High School in Upton and went on to the Massachusetts Maritime Academy in Buzzards Bay. He joined the Army in 2012  He trained for service at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio. He was stationed at Fort Campbell in January of 2013.

His awards include the Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Combat Action Badge, and the Air Assault Badge.

John's military comrades are in mourning over the death of their young brother who died in the service of his country.

to be a soldier and his family are very proud of him. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

John is survived by many loving comrades, friends and relatives including his parents, Rhonda Dawson and Michael Dawson; and his sister, Ashley.

Thank you for serving, John. 

Pray without ceasing unto God for an end to this war in Afghanistan. It is enough. We are sick with grief for men like John.

Pray that John is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
