Matthew Chism - Law Enforcement - Missouri

Deputy Sheriff Matthew Chism, 25, died in the line of duty on November 2, 2014, at a hospital in Missouri.

Matthew was a member of the Cedar County Sheriff's Office.  He had almost two years of service. 

Just after midnight, Matthew had attempted to stop a vehicle for driving with no headlights in El Dorado Springs.  The vehicle fled and was pursued.  At an intersection, the vehicle stopped and the passenger bailed out.  Deputy Chism and the passenger started fighting and shots were fired.  Both men were shot. The driver of the vehicle fled. 

Matthew was transported to a local hospital where sadly he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the vehicle, a male from El Dorado Springs, also age 28, was arrested at a nearby house a short time later.

The Cedar County Sheriff's Office is in mourning over the death of their young brother. Law Enforcement officials stated that Matthew was a buddy to his comrades and one of the department's best deputies. He will be forever remembered.

Matthew's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He will be forever mourned.

Matthew is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his wife and his small child.

God save us from the Lost Ones who bring death to strangers.

Pray that Matthew is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
