Greg Berry - A Good Samaritan died in Durban, South Africa

Gregory Berry
Gregory Berry, age 59, died on October 1, 2014, at a pharmacy in Durban, South Africa.

At about 9:00 a.m., Greg drove to his local pharmacy to pick up some prescriptions.

He parked his car and noticed that a woman, Courtney Fennell, age 26, was being attacked by three men who were attempting to hijack her car. She screamed for help and many people in the area came to her aid. The robbers fled the scene on foot.

Greg Berry jumped into his car and chased after one of the hijackers and caught him. He drove back to the pharmacy to wait for the police.

It was at the pharmacy that Greg collapsed and suffered a heart attack. He died at the scene. The stress of all of this commotion was too much for his heart.

Two of the three men involved in the crime have been charged with attempted

hijacking.

Greg worked part time as a mechanic.

Friends describe him as very friendly and pleasant. His death is a great loss to the community. He will be forever remembered.

Greg's loved ones are devastated by his sudden and tragic death. He died the way he lived. He was full of life, fun and nonsense at times. But if someone was in trouble he stepped up. He will be forever mourned.

Greg is survived by many loving friends and family members including his son, Garreth.

Pray for all who die by misadventure. They are with us one moment and are gone before we can say goodbye.

Pray for all who die while coming to the aid of others. They are the everyday heroes of the modern era.

Thank you for trying to make a difference, Greg.

Pray that Greg is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
