Daryl Pierson - Law Enforcement - Rochester, New York

Police Officer Daryl Pierson, age 32, died in the line of duty on September 3, 2014, at a hospital in Rochester, New York.

Officer Pierson was a member of the Rochester Police Department. He had 8 years of service.

At about 9:30 p.m., Daryl and his partner responded to help look for a suspect who fled from a traffic stop.  They spotted the suspect and approached him but he fled on foot.  It is alleged he fired two shots - one bullet hit Officer Pierson and the other hit a bystander.  

Daryl was rushed to the hospital but sadly succumbed to his injuries despite the valiant efforts of medical staff to save him. 

The suspect, Thomas Johnson III, age 38, had only recently been paroled while serving a sentence for attempted armed robbery.  Thomas Johnson faces numerous charges including aggravated murder. 

Daryl was also a member of the Army National Guard. 

The Rochester Police Department is in mourning over the death of their brother. Daryl had been recognized by the Department for his efforts in removing illegal guns from the street.  He had also received a good conduct award and had previously been named Officer of the Month. He is described as a calming influence and a reliable member of the department.  Daryl will be forever remembered.

Daryl's loved ones are devastated over his senseless and tragic death. He is described as a devoted husband and father. From an early age he had wanted to serve his country and the community. He will be forever mourned.

Daryl is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his mother, Debi; his father, Steve; his sisters, Patty and Julie; his brother, Brett; his wife, Amy; and their children - Christian, age 4 and Charity, age 3 months.

Pray for all who die in the line of duty.

God save us from the Lost Ones who bring death to strangers. They are killing us, Father.

Pray that Daryl is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
