David Voigt - a victim of Impaired Driving in California

David Voigt
David Voigt, age 44, of Chula Vista, died on March 3, 2014, at a hospital in San Diego, California.

At about 4:15 p.m., David was riding his bicycle on a city street. He was biking home from work. A car crossed into oncoming traffic and struck David. The car then veered onto the sidewalk and struck a power pole and a tree.

David was transported to a hospital in San Diego where tragically he passed away.

Michael Reyes, age 29, was arrested in connection with the collision. The car had been stolen earlier that day and there was stolen property found inside the vehicle.

Michael Reyes admitted to drinking alcohol before the accident. He may be charged with auto theft, stolen property and vehicular manslaughter charges. He is currently on probation for drug charges.

David worked for the Sweetwater Authority which is a publicly owned water utility providing water service to areas in the vicinity of San Diego. Co-workers stated that he was well liked and well respected by his peers.

Besides biking, David was into running and racing motorcyles in his spare time.

David Voigt's loved ones are devastated by his sudden and senseless death.

He is described as young, vibrant, full of life and love. He was a great father and husband. He loved his wife and his sons. He was a hard worker and a focused thinker.
Light a candle for David.  Light his way
to Heaven.

He also enjoyed biking to work, running and racing motorcycles in his free time.

David is survived by many loving friends and family members including his wife and two sons.

Pray for justice for David.

Pray for all who die by misadventure. They are with us one moment and gone the next.

God save us from the thieves. They run away from the Law and mow us down while they are doing it.

God save us from the drunk and doped up drivers. In their delirium, they are killing us, Father.

Pray that David is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
