Moises Morales - A hit and run victim in Calgary, Alberta

Moises Morales
Moises Morales, age 26, died on February 17, 2014, on a street in Calgary's North End.

At 4:00 a.m., Moises was walking to a Tim Horton's Restaurant. It is believed that he either was going to work or had just finished his shift and was going for a coffee before going home.

He was at or near an intersection. He was not crossing in the middle of the street. He was struck and dragged by a vehicle.

Moises was rushed to a local hospital but died of his injuries.

Dilan Ursan, age 25, of Calgary, has been charged with hit and run causing death. He
Dilan Ursan
left the scene but turned himself in about 4 hours later.

The Police believe that he turned himself in because he felt that the news coverage and identifying information would lead to his arrest anyway.

Dilan Ursan admitted to drinking a couple of beers but because of the time lapse between the time of the accident and the time he turned himself in to the Police, alcohol-related charges can't be laid. There is no proof that he was impaired.

Dilan pleaded guilty in March and May of 2008 for driving over the legal alcohol limit. Both convictions resulted in fines and a suspension of his licence. He has not been arrested under similar charges since 2008.

No one is alleging that Dilan Ursan was impaired but he was involved in a fatal hit and run accident. Moises Morales did not run into a car. A car ran into him. Why?

Police are also looking for a witness who may have been a passenger in Ursan's

vehicle at the time of the crash. Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Calgary Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Moises was born in Nicaragua. His loved ones state that he was a hard worker. He worked two jobs. He never caused any trouble. He was not into drugs or heavy drinking. He is also described as a good kid.

The family of Moises will forever miss him.

Moises is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his mother, Reyna Morales; his stepfather, Harold Chavarria; and five siblings.

Pray for justice for Moises.

God save us from the drunk and doped up drivers. They are killing us, Father.

God save us from the speeding drivers. They strike us down on the street and then run away like wolves.

Pray that Moises is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
