Brian Law and Juan Gonzalez - Law Enforcement - California

Officer Brian Law, age 34, and Officer Juan Gonzalez, age 33, died in the line of duty on February 17, 2014, on a roadway in Kingsburg, California.

Brian and Juan were members of the California Highway Patrol. They worked out of the Fresno area office. Both men had 6 years of service.

Officer Law and Officer Gonzalez were responding to an accident call after 5:00 a.m. It had been mistakenly reported that the accident was in the northbound lane of the highway. When they arrived at the scene, they observed that the accident was in the southbound lane with one of the victims in their lane. The patrol car swerved to avoid striking the victim, hit a guardrail and rolled over.

Both officers suffered fatal wounds in the crash.

The California Highway Patrol is in mourning over the deaths of their brothers.

The officers had attended the police academy together and were good friends. 

Brian started his patrols in Oakland and transferred to the Fresno area in January of 2013. He is described as quiet, fun, a standup guy, who was into working out and sports. He was always willing to help out. He lived in Clovis. 

Juan had attended Fresno State University and was a member of the Nu Alpha Kappa fraternity. He began his patrols in San Jose. He transferred to the Fresno area in May of 2010.  He served as a field training officer with the Highway Patrol and was a good mentor. He is described as calm, helpful and a standup guy. He had a positive attitude and performed his duties in a professional manner.

Brian is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his wife, Rebecca and three children - Brandon, Lauren and Samantha.

Juan is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his mother, Maria; his sister, Sandra; and his girlfriend.

Thank you for your service to the public, Brian and Juan.

Pray for all who die in the line of duty.

Pray for all who die by misadventure. They are with us one moment and gone the next.

Pray that Brian is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
