Amanda Baker - Correctional Officer - Nebraska

Amanda Baker
Correctional Officer Amanda Baker, age 24, died on February 16, 2014 at a hospital in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.

Amanda worked at the Scotts Bluff County Juvenile Detention Center, in Gering, Nebraska. She had over one and one-half years of service.

Two days earlier, on February 14, 2014, Amanda was attacked by a 15 year old male inmate in the facility.

Dylan Cardeilhac had been awaiting trial since December of 2013 on an armed robbery charge.

He lured Officer Baker into his cell about 2:00 a.m., supposedly to look at something

on his cell floor. He then attacked and strangled Officer Baker. She was transported to Regional West Medical Center where she was pronounced brain dead. She was kept on life support so her organs could be donated and tragically she passed away on February 16.

Officials say that Dylan Cardeilhac is expected to be charged with first-degree murder.

This kid looks like a choir boy - as pure as the driven snow. Looks are deceiving.  He is only 15 years old and yet he has already committed armed robbery and murder. He has a rap sheet like Judas. God save us from boys like this. They are evil made real in the flesh.

Amanda was born in Newberg, Oregon. She was a 2008 graduate of Scottsbluff High School. She was also a student at Western Nebraska Community College.

Jail officials describe Amanda as a very warm, very caring person who loved people and loved her job. Her comrades are in mourning over her tragic death.

Family members stated that Amanda was a light in their world that was blown out

Enforcement, pray for Amanda
much too early. She was a loving mother and a cherished daughter and sister. She had a sense of humor. She was trying to make a better life for her son and herself. She will be forever missed.

Amanda is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including her mother and stepfather, Julie and Randy Baszler; brothers Isaiah and Noah Baker; sister Cassie Baker; and her 6 year old son, David Baker II.

Thank you for your service to the public, Amanda.

Pray for all who die in the line of duty.

God save us from the Lost Ones who bring death to others. Amen.

Pray that Amanda is in heaven. Pray that she is at peace and is with God. Amen.
