Adam Herr - a victim of Impaired Driving in Philadelphia

Adam Herr, age 24, of Lebanon, Pennsylvania, died on December 7, 2013, on a roadway in Philadelphia.
Adam Herr

At about 10:30 p.m., Adam was walking in a Santa suit on the I-95 highway when he was struck by a vehicle.  Adam was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The driver of the vehicle is Augustine Bangura, age 27, of Philadelphia.  He stopped at the scene of the accident but failed a routine sobriety test.  State troopers detected a strong odor of weed in his car and noticed that his eyes were glassy and bloodshot.

Augustine Bangura has been charged with DUI and homicide by motor vehicle. He was also driving with a suspended license.

If someone was dressed in black, walking on the highway, you could presume that you may not seen him, but someone dressed in a red and white Santa suit?

Adam was attending a "Running of the Santas" event which is a pub crawl, three block race, and party held yearly in various cities.

Adam had attended and went out for dinner with friends but left the restaurant at one point.  Why he ended up walking on the highway is unknown at this time.

Adam is described as a happy, generous and loving young man. He was energetic and successful. He had attended Shippensburg University.  He was employed as a head bank teller and was a certified notary public.

He enjoyed life and never got into trouble. He will be forever mourned.

Adam's parents stated that they have forgiven the driver who took their son's life.
Light a candle for Adam.  Light his way to Heaven.
They stated: "We're of a strong faith and we know anger is not going to bring Adam back.  All we can do is pray for the person who hit him, that he finds comfort, peace, salvation and hope."

Adam is survived by many loving friends and family members including his parents, Dennis and Jeany Herr.

Pray for all who die by misadventure. They are with us one moment and gone the next.

God save us from the drunk and doped up drivers. They are killing us, Father.

Pray that Adam is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.

I was there at the scene and it was horrific. I don't share the faith the family has but I do wish them peace.
