Jamie Buenting - Law Enforcement - Iowa

Officer Jamie Buenting, age 37, died in the line of duty on September 13, 2013, in Rockwell City, Iowa.

Jamie was a member of the Rockwell City Police Department. He had served with the Department for 8 years. Before that he had served 4 years with the Manson Police Department.

Jamie and other officers responded to a call that a man wanted for assaulting his mother was at a particular house. The man barricaded himself inside the house and after a four hour standoff, at approximately 1:40 a.m., he fired a single shot which struck Officer Buenting, killing him.

The subject surrendered at approximately 5:30 a.m.

Corey Trott, age 32, of Rockwell City, has been charged with first degree murder.

Officer Buenting also served as a member on a regional Special Emergency Response Team and was a certified firearms instructor at the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in Johnston, Iowa.

Local officials describe Jamie as a very generous person who did his job very well.

Others describe him as a wonderful officer and a good family man. He was very enthusiastic about whatever he got into. He is also described as a people person.

Jamie is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his wife and two young children.
