Robert Thomas Jr. - U.S. Military

Robert Thomas Jr., his wife, Kristina,

Staff Sgt. Robert E. Thomas Jr., age 24, of Fontana, California, died on September 13, 2013, at Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, Texas, of wounds suffered during a non-combat related incident on April 21, 2013, in Maiwand, Afghanistan.

The details of the incident have not been released as of this posting.

He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 36th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, Fort Bliss, Texas.

Robert was born in San Bernardino, California. He graduated from Etiwanda High School in June of 2006 and enlisted in the Army the next month.

Robert was a squad leader in a mortar platoon. He deployed to Afghanistan in December of 2012. This was his second deployment to Afghanistan. He had also served a year long tour of duty in Iraq in 2007.

His awards include the Army Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with one oak leaf cluster, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghan Campaign Medal with a Campaign Star, the Iraq Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, the NATO Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge, and the Air Assault Badge.

Military comrades stated that he never complained and was there for everyone. He put

way to Heaven. 
the welfare of others before himself. He will always be remembered.

Robert is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his wife Kristina, and his daughter, Hailey.
