It was Saturday night and he had been at a hookah bar with his girlfriend and a fraternity brother.
At about 1:30 a.m., Terrell Cowherd tried to break up a fight that was happening in the middle of the street. He attempted to intervene and to get everyone to settle down.
One of the men in the fight, Julian Martin Jr., age 23, first hit Terrell and then repeatedly stabbed him, while another man, Jerry Brown Jr. held Terrell from behind and punched him while he was being stabbed.
Julian Martin Jr., age 23, turned himself in to police the next day. He is being held on $250,000. bond.
Jerry Brown Jr. was also arrested shortly after the incident.

Terrell Cowherd was taken to Baylor Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.
Terrell was an engineer who graduated from Prairie View Agricultural and Mechanical College. He was currently working for an energy company in Dallas and was engaged to be married.
Family members stated that Terrell was a man of faith, who cared about people. He was grateful to his parents for everything they had done for him.
Co-workers at his place of employment describe Terrell as kind, friendly, smiling and cordial and a man who displayed leadership qualities. He had a future with the company. He will be greatly missed by his colleagues.
Terrell is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his mother; his
father, Terrence Cowherd Sr.; and his fiancée.
