Jaimie Leonard - U.S. Military

Maj. Jaimie E. Leonard, age 39, of Warrick, New York, died on June 8, 2013, in Sharana, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered from small arms fire received at Zarghun Shahr, Afghanistan.

She was killed when a man in an Afghan Army uniform opened fire on her, another soldier and a civilian contractor. The Afghan soldier was himself killed.

She was assigned to the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York.

Jaimie grew up in Warwick, New York. She attended Warwick Valley High School and graduated from West Point in 1997.

She had previously deployed to Bosnia in 1999, to Iraq in 2005 and to Afghanistan in 2011 before returning there with her unit in January of 2013.

Among her awards and decorations are: two Bronze Stars, two Meritorious Service Medals and the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal.

Friends describe her as focused, determined and capable. She loved serving and loved leading. Her field, intelligence, is something that really stimulated her. She

worked on Capitol Hill doing intelligence work for the Pentagon.

Comrades have described her as one of the best intelligence officers that they had ever worked with.

Jaimie is survived by many loving friends and relatives, including five siblings.

Thank you for serving, Jaimie. 

Pray without ceasing unto God for an end to this war in Afghanistan. It is enough. We are sick with grief for women like Jaimie.

Pray that Jaimie is in heaven. Pray that she is at peace and is with God. Amen.
