Zachary Shanafelt

Spc. Zachary A.Shanafelt, age 24, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, died on November 21, 2012, at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C.

Zachary was a combat medic in Afghanistan with the Attack Battery 1-84th Field Artillery at Combat Outpost Qaisar in the Fariyab Province. 

He was injured in an accident which occurred in Afghanistan in 2011. 

He attended Creston High School and was part of the ROTC program there for 4 years. ROTC officials describe him a great role model and a super kid. 

Family member describe him as a loving and dedicated husband, father, son, brother and friend. His wife was the love of his life and his son was the apple of his eye.

He is also described as a giving, unselfish man, full of life and an extrovert, with a sense of humor. 

Zachary is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his mother Gloria Shanafelt; his father, Patrick Shanafelt; his brothers Christopher and Silas Shanafelt; his wife Marina; and their 13 month old son, Daniel. 

Pray for all who suffer and linger.
