Kyle Rookey

Spc. Kyle R. Rookey, age 23, of Oswego, New York, died on September 2, in Jalalabad, Afghanistan from a non-combat related incident. 

He was assigned to the 4th Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado.

The cause of his death has not been released as of this posting. 

He also lists his hometown as Rogers, Arkansas. He was a 2007 graduate of Oswego High School. He had been in the Army for 2 and 1/2 years and was a drone operator.

Kyle Rookey entered the Army on March 3, 2010, nearly three years after high school graduation. He joined his unit at Fort Carson on Jan. 7, 2011.  He deployed with his unit to Afghanistan on March 10, 2012.

Family members stated that Kyle enjoyed his job with his battalion and he was proud of what he did. He had always wanted to be involved in aircraft, even as a child.

Kyle wrote "I love my family and friends so much.  You all make me feel loved more than I deserve. I thank my wife for being just pure awesome, wonderful and gung ho on top of dealing with me … only a few more months left now … Then off to being a daddy and a hubby, hopefully successfully."

Kyle's high school teachers describe him as dedicated, a hard worker and a good person.

Kyle's honors include a National Defense Service Medal, an Army Service Ribbon and an Afghanistan Campaign Medal.

Kyle is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his mother Carol Sue Akers; his father, George Rookey; his brother, David Wallace; his sisters, Angela and Elizabeth; his wife, Victoria and their 11 month old daughter, Flora Kyleigh. 

Let us pray that Kyle Rookey is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
