Blaine Diddams

Australian soldier Sergeant Blaine Diddams, age 40, died on July 2, 2012, in Tarin Kowt, Afghanistan. 

His patrol was dropped by helicopter in pursuit of an insurgent. In this pursuit, he was shot in the chest and died at a medical facility in Tarin Kowt, despite wearing combat body armour.

Blaine was known as "Didds" to his military comrades. 

He was born in Canberra. He enlisted in the Army in 1990 and was posted to the 1st Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment in Townsville, Queensland, later that year. In 1995 he was posted to the elite SASR in Perth after completing the selection course.

Military officials stated that he was known for his outgoing personality, his sense of humour and his professionalism. He was greatly liked and respected by his comrades. 

Comrades said that he was happy and that he loved life. 

Blaine is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his parents, Peter and Cate; his siblings, Nikki, Sian, Christian and Luke; his wife Toni-Ann; his daughter Elle-Lou and his son, Henry. 

Let us pray that Blaine Diddams is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
