Robert Traxel

Staff Sergeant Robert Traxel, age 34, of Union, Missouri, died on July 2, 2012, in Guatemala.

Robert was a member of the Missouri National Guard. He was a broadcast specialist with the 70th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment based in Jefferson City.

He was filming the take-off of a helicopter as part of his work as a military journalist. The high winds caused by the helicopter caused a tree limb to fall, striking Robert, and killing him. 

He had previously served as a police officer in Florissant, Missouri. 

Before joining the Guard, he had served more than 7 years in the Army and Marines. He had served in Afghanistan in 2008 and in Iraq in 2011.

His awards and decorations include the Army Achievement Medal, second award, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Army Good Conduct Medal, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal w/ two campaign stars, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Army Service Ribbon and the Navy Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.

Family members stated that they are proud of Robert's service to his country. 

Robert is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his wife and his 4 children. 

Pray for all who die in the performance of their duties.
