Mark Ratledge - Firefighter - California

Fire Captain Mark Ratledge, age 35, died on February 29, 2012, in the line of duty, in Redding, California.

Mark was a member of the Cottonwood Fire Protection District. He had nine years of service with the department.

Mark was working at the scene of a traffic collision on a local highway when a vehicle slid into him. The highway was slippery and hail-covered.

Mark started working with the Department as a volunteer in 2003 and was promoted to captain in 2008. He also served as the training officer for the department. Before joining the Cottonwood Fire Protection District, he worked for the Redding Fire Department and the U.S. Forest Service. 

Mark is survived by many loving friends and family members including his parents, Jack Ratledge and Maria Closa; sister, Susana Ratledge; fiancĂ©e Jennifer Hobbs; daughter, Sophia; stepdaughter, Hannah and stepson, Conner. 

Pray for all who die in the line of duty. 

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Mark Ratledge is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
