Staff Sgt. Joseph J. Altmann, age 27, of Marshfield, Wisconsin, died on December 25, 2011, in Kunar province Afghanistan, of injuries suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with small arms fire.

Joe Altmann was due to return from this tour of duty in February or March. He had served two previous tours of duty in Iraq.

Family members stated that Joe loved serving in the military and that he was good at what he did.

Friends describe him as an all-around nice guy who had many friends and enjoyed sports and outdoor activities. They also describe him as a quiet man, willing to help others, and a man with integrity and honesty.

Joseph is survived by many loving friends and family members including his parents, John and Janice Altmann and three adult siblings.

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Joseph Altmann is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
