Stephen J. Dunning

Staff Sgt. Stephen J. Dunning, age 31, of Milpitas, California, died on October 27, 2011, while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan.

He was assigned to 9th Engineer Support Battalion, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa, Japan.

Stephen was killed while trying to dismantle an improvised explosive device.

Stephen graduated from Milpitas High School in 1998 and joined the military soon after.

A career Marine with nearly 13 years of service, Stephen Dunning was on his second tour of duty in Afghanistan.

Family members describe him as selfless and patriotic. 

Fellow soldiers describe him as a great friend. 

Stephen is survived by numerous loving friends and family members including his parents, Robert and Tomoe Dunning.

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Stephen J. Dunning is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
