He was assigned to 3rd Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, based at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, California.

Jason was serving his first deployment to Afghanistan since he enlisted in the Marine Corps on Jan. 25, 2010.
His personal service awards include the Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the NATO-ISAF Medal.
Family members have stated that Jason loved his family and was a man of faith. Others have stated that he had a positive attitude, had an infectious smile and loved his country.
Jason is survived by numerous loving friends and family members including his mother, Kelli Barfield; his father, Ray Barfield and his Aunt, Shirley Cobb.
Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Jason N. Barfield is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
