Firefighter Horace Pendergrass, age 49, died on October 22, 2011, in Fairfax, Virginia.
He was known as both "Chris" and "Teddy" to his friends and co-workers.
He was discovered deceased in his bunk by fellow firefighters at shift change, having passed away during the night in his sleep from a cause still to be determined.
He was a member of the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department, Virginia. He had over 20 years of service with the Department.

He was originally from Chesapeake, Virginia.
Fellow officers describe him as a gentle giant with a heart of gold.
Chris is survived by numerous loving friends and relatives including his father, James H. Pendergrass; his children, Christian Aniece Adams, Tierra Janiece Pendergrass and Horace Christopher Pendergrass, Jr.; his sisters Natalie Gravette, Robin Gail Pendergrass and Jessica Lynn Jones; and his brother, Donnell Adams.
Pray for all who die while on duty.
Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Horace (Chris) Pendergrass is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
