Spc. Preston J. Dennis, age 23, of Redding, California, died on April 28, 2011, in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, N.Y.

Preston was a graduate of Modoc High School in Alturas and graduate of College of the Siskiyous. He was on his second deployment, the first had been from 2009 to April 2010. He began his second tour March 18, 2011.
Preston is survived by his wife, Heather, son Richard, step-father retired Modoc County Sheriff Bruce Mix and mother Maria, sisters Angie and Amanda Dennis-Mix all of Redding.
Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Preston J. Dennis is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.

His Blue Star has turned to Gold. We are saddened by the ultimate sacrifice he has made in the defense of his country. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.
