Charles L. Adkins


Sergeant 1st Class Charles Lewis Adkins, age 35, of Sandusky, Ohio, died on April 16, 2011, as result of a suicide attack during a meeting on Forward Operating Base Gamberi, Nangarhar province, Afghanistan. 

Charles was assigned to Headquarters and headquarters Company, 101st Special Troops Battalion, 101st Sustainment Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.

Charles was a Maintenance Supervisor. He joined the Army in November 1995 and arrived at Fort Campbell in June 2002. 

His awards and decorations include: Bronze Star Medal; Purple Heart Medal; Army Commendation Medal; Army Achievement Medal; Army Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Korean Defense Service Medal; Afghanistan Campaign Medal; Iraq Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon; North Atlantic Treaty Organization Medal; Combat Action Badge; Pathfinder Badge; Air Assault Badge and Driver and Mechanic Badge.

Charles Adkins is survived by his wife, Sarah C. Adkins; son, Garrhett C. Adkins; daughters, Makayla R. L. Adkins, Mackenzie S. Adkins and Gabriella G. Adkins, all of Clarksville, Tenn. He is also survived by his parents, Charles E. Adkins of Milan, Ohio and Shelia Good of Hudson, Mich.

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Charles L. Adkins is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
