Capt. Charles E. Ridgley Jr., age 40, of Baltimore, Maryland, died on April 16, 2011, as result of a suicide attack during a meeting on Forward Operating Base Gamberi, Nangarhar province, Afghanistan.
Charles was assigned to the 17th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 3rd Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Anchorage, Alaska. He was due to return home from Afghanistan in 2 weeks.

Known as "Eddie" to his family, Captain Ridgley, overcame a rough childhood, bouncing back and forth between relatives' homes in Baltimore, Aberdeen and Atlanta. He joined the Army after high school.
Relatives stated that he was a blessed man and a hero. He is also described as being responsible and a family oriented man, who cared for his loved ones.
Charles earned his bachelor's degree in business administration with a concentration in global logistics from the University of Alaska at Anchorage. He was working on his master's degree when he was deployed to Afghanistan about a year ago.
Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Charles E. Ridgley Jr. is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
