Jacob A. Tate

Cpl. Jacob A. Tate, age 21, was killed on January 2, 2011, during combat operations in the Helmand province of Afghanistan.

Jacob Tate was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.  He left for Afghanistan in July. This was his second tour. He had previously been deployed to Iraq.

His aunt stated that “Jacob was the kindest, sweetest kid. He used to call me from Iraq just to say hello. He didn’t even know how to swim when he joined the Marines. He had to take swimming lessons to join. He was just an amazing kid.”

He is survived by his parents, James and Janice Tate of Columbus and his wife and a newborn child who he had never met, and by numerous other loving relatives and friends.

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Jacob A. Tate is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
