Maung Htaik

Lance Cpl. Maung Htaik, age 20, died in combat in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, on January 1, 2011.

He was from Hagerstown, Maryland. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

His brother said that "He has never spoken of being afraid of death and was very quiet and calm.  There are a lot of things, but I just want to say he was brave, real brave."

Maung is described as being very quiet, and that he liked to play games on the computer and enjoyed drawing.

Maung Htaik joined the Marines in February 2009. He was promoted to lance corporal April 1, 2010, and deployed to Afghanistan in July.

Maung Htaik's family left Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, in 1998, and moved to Singapore. The family came to the United States in 2002 because their father wanted them to be able to get a better education.

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Maung P. Htaik is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
