William H. Crouse IV

Lance Cpl. William “Billy” H. Crouse IV, age 22, died in an explosion December 21, 2010, in Afghanistan with his bomb-sniffing dog, Cane.

It was William Crouse's first tour of duty; he had been in Afghanistan for only six weeks when the blast occurred, and it was Cane's third tour of duty. The two were in Helmand province and assigned to 1st Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force based at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

He was born in Angola and lived there through the eighth grade. The family moved to Fort Wayne where Crouse spent two years at Northrop High School. His junior year the family moved to South Carolina where he graduated from Clinton High School in 2007. After that, Crouse joined the military, receiving his training at Camp Lejeune, a major Marine training facility.

Some of his family members still live in the Fort Wayne area: his mother, Nancy, and stepfather, Vinnie Siders, and two brothers, Ryan Rothman and Nathan Rothman. He also has a sister, who stated “He joined the military to add structure and focus to his life.”

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that William "Billy" Crouse is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
