Michael Napoli, age 33, of Westerville, Ohio, who is the ex-husband of Kimberly Napoli, found James and Kimberly together. He shot and killed James Boergers. He shot at and injured his ex-wife but she managed to escape. She was transported to a medical facility.
Michael Napoli was apprehended on July 20, 2014, at a hotel 70 miles away from the scene of the murder. After a standoff, he was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the head. He was transported to a medical facility in Dayton, Ohio.
If he survives, he will be charged with aggravated murder, aggravated burglary and attempted murder.
James Boergers graduated from Jacksonville University in 2005 and started his employment with the St. Johns County Public Works Department in St. Augustine, Florida, in 2006.

Neighbours of Michael Napoli, (the shooter), describe him as a nice guy, pleasant and
outgoing. However, when a marriage breakdown occurs, all bets are off. Some people brush off divorce like a minor inconvenience and some people are mentally devastated. They feel as if their lives are over. Or alternatively, they get the notion into their heads that "if I can't have you, nobody will", which seems to be the case here.
If you are experiencing a relationship breakdown and feel that you are getting out of control because of it:
~ Speak to a friend or a family member who you know is calm and who will not exacerbate the situation.
~ Speak to a priest, a pastor or someone you trust.
~ Go to the local hospital's emergency room and say that you are losing it and that you need help. You may need strong prescription drugs to calm you down. You may need psychiatric counselling.
~ Turn yourself in to the local Police, saying that you feel violently out of control and that you don't trust your own actions. They won't arrest you but they may detain you long enough to calm you down or they may refer you to a nearby medical facility.
~ Do anything you can to prevent yourself from committing murder, thereby depriving someone else of life and destroying your own life in the process.
