Zackari Parrish - Sheriff's Office Fatality - Douglas County, Colorado

Zackari Parrish
Deputy Sheriff Zackari Parrish, age 29, died in the line of duty on December 31, 2017, in Highlands Ranch, Colorado.

Deputy Sheriff Parrish was a member of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, based in Castle Rock, Colorado. He had seven months of service with the Sheriff's Office. He had previously served two years with the Castle Rock Police Department. 

About 5:30 a.m., Officers were dispatched to a disturbance call at an apartment complex in Highlands Ranch. Highlands Ranch is 20 miles south of downtown Denver. 

A male occupant at the apartment had barricaded himself inside the apartment and started shooting. 

Tragically, Zackari was mortally wounded at the scene. Several other law enforcement officers were wounded but managed to flee the apartment. At least two civilians were also wounded by the shooter. 

Zackari was rushed to a hospital in Littleton, Colorado, where he was pronounced deceased. 

Officers shot and killed the shooter, Matthew Riehl, age 37.

Friends describe Zackari as friendly and charming and a committed Baptist Christian. 

Oceans of tears have been shed for Zackari. 

The members of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office and the Castle Rock Police Department are in mourning over the death of their young brother. Sheriff's Office officials stated that Zackari was a young father with many hopes and dreams. He was well-liked and well-respected by his comrades. He died in the service of the community. He was one of the good guys. He will be forever remembered.

Zackari's loved ones are devastated by his sudden and tragic death. He was loving and was loved in return. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Zackari is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his parents; his sisters; his wife and two young daughters.

Thank you for your service to the community, Zackari.
